Located between Costa Rica (in the south) and Colombia (in the north), with the Pacific Ocean and Caribbean Sea on either side, Panama has a mountainous area in the west which is where the majority of coffee is grown.

The main coffee growing region is in the west near Costa Rica on Baru Volcano, with the town of Volcan on one side and Boquete on the other. Coffee is grown at elevations of 3,500 to 6,000 feet above sea level and under the canopy of dense forest or in the sun with citrus or native trees. Coffee is handpicked and dried by the sun or alternatively mechanically extracted.  Harvest is from November to March.

Boquete

Boquete, a small town located 350 miles away from Panama City is where our growers are located.

In the coffee farms of Panama, there a different species of trees and indigenous animals, such as monkeys, wild cats, squirrels, and many highland and migratory birds.

The ‘tipica’ coffee trees are still harvested with the help of the Ngobe-Bugle Indian tribe between November and April. Generations have passed on the art of handpicking only the finest cherries and handling it with expert care. In processing the coffee, our growers utilize a combination of modern technology and old world methods used by our ancestors, thereby giving the coffee an exquisite taste.

Our growers are proud of the fact that our plantations are free of pesticides and other harmful chemicals used in the growing process, enhancing our efforts to preserve the ecological environment.

Because of their altitude and climatologically conditions, our growers are best known for growing the ‘tipica’ variety of coffees, which is one of the unmatched coffees in the world.

Boquete is considered by coffee experts to be one of the few natural environments with near-perfect growing conditions. Because of this, Panamanian coffee is ranked among the best in the world. Boquete is located on the slope of the Baru Volcano, between 1000 and 2000 meters above sea level. Its rich volcanic soil, high in mineral content, is combined with the soft, cool breezes that descend from the mountains to produce the exact acidity, body and scent required for a coffee with an exceptional cup quality.

The Estate was first established by a Texas engineer who came to Panama in 1927 to grow plantains in Jacu. One day he visited Boquete and found the place to be marvelous. He bought a coffee farm.

In 1975, a European immigrant acquired the farm. He brought with him old world growing methods, thereby honoring a strict tradition of quality. The Estate is located 1600 meters above sea level on the slope of the Baru Volcano. The morning sun and soft breezes of the Pacific Ocean bath the estate producing a wonderful coffee bean with an exquisite taste.

Our grower’s coffee is grown along the Caldera River at 1400 meters above sea level. The region is on a volcanic fault replete with minerals and bathed by the Atlantic breezes, giving the coffee a uniquely different taste. It is an honor to mention that these Estates (an ecologically friendly coffee) have won for two consecutive years the Cupping Competition Certified Award. This award is given by the Specialty Coffee Association in Boquete, Panama.
