Ethiopia is located in the Eastern part of Africa, the birth place of the Arabica tree. It boarders Eritrea in the north; Kenya in the south; Sudan in the west and Djibouti and Somalia in the east; mountains range from 7,800 to 12,000 feet above sea level.

Ethiopia’s coffee regions are: Harrar, small farms in the east at high elevations and coffee is processed by hand. Ghimbi which is in the west of Ethiopia and coffee is grown at high elevations. In the south is Sidamo, coffee there is grown in low lands. Coffee is classified into 8 different Grades; Grades refer to number of defects NOT bean size.

Harvest is from October to December.

Facts about Harar coffee

Harar coffee belongs to a high class of coffee produced in Ethiopia. What make Harar coffee different from other coffee is the extraordinary aroma and the unique high land flavor. Most of Harar coffee is produced as a garden coffee.
 
The most consistent genuine Harar coffee is graded by size in to “long berry” and “short berry” according to the area it comes from East ,Harargeh and west Harargeh.
Harar long berry has good flavor, medium acidity and superior in body quality.
Rain fall pattern in Harargie is bimodal with one peak in April and second peak in August, April-may and other August –September, respectively .Rainfall is distributed well over 7 months.
