The continent is divided into three regions due to the vast mountain areas - Southern coast line; central valleys and mountains in the north. Classification is dependent on elevation levels and these are: SHG (strictly high grown) where coffee is grown over 1,200 meters above sea level and HG (high grown) describes coffee grown at 900-1,200 meters above sea level.
Farmers use traditional methods to control pests and use the dense tree cover for protection. Harvest period is October to March.
