

Cuba is located in the Caribbean Sea and comprises of flat plains, hills and mountains. The highest mountain is Pico Real Del Turuino at 1,975 meters above sea level in the southeast.
Cuba has 3 coffee growing regions, Nipe Baracoa/Sierra Maestra in the southeast of the country; Escambray a mountainous region in the Villa Clara province, and Sierra del Rosario in the west, Pinar del Rio Province. Sierra Maestra’s coffee is grown in the shade at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level.
Cuban Organic Coffee is grown in the mountains, which rule the aerographic panorama of the island, with average temperatures between 24−26ºC, a relative humidity between 76−90% and a yearly amount of rainfalls above 1900mm. These are ideal conditions for the growing of Arabica species.
Coffee plantations are protected by the shade from alternative crops of fruit, wood and leguminous trees grown by means of polyculture technique. The organic matter, manure and compost together with methods of management system of pests and disease control and a sustainable development contribute to the growing on an ecological set of crops.
