Colombia is made up of mountain ranges from north to south. Central and eastern mountain ranges produce best coffees. In Quindio, coffee is grown on hill sides under the shade of banana trees. Bogota is nestled high in the Andes at 2620 meters above sea level at its highest point; Cali is the 3rd largest city for coffee and is located in the southwest region; hills rise to 995 meters above sea level. In Medellin landscapes of luscious green valleys are filled with coffee trees and Bucaramanga, also with lush green mountains, has an ideal rainfall which is perfect for coffee and the banana trees provide perfect shade for the coffee trees.

Coffee bean varieties are: Bourbon, Typica, Caturra and Maragogype and all coffee is carefully handpicked. Colombian coffee is no longer origin specified, it is now graded and the highest grading is Supremo, followed by Extra; at times both grades are combined and this is referred to as Excelso.

Colombia is the world’s 3rd largest coffee producer after Brazil and Vietnam. Colombia has two harvests – the main is from April to June and the second October to January.
